Quilt

I had this REALLY great idea a few months ago in the dead of the winter when I was bored out of my mind. I thought making a quilt for our baby would be a good way to pass my time. And it was, the two times I worked on it during the winter. Then life got crazy. And the quilt sat it it's bag. And I felt guilty about it.

So, I did what any smart woman would do - I enlisted the help of my mom. For some reason, just being in their home makes me more motivated to get things done. I took Madeline with me to Logan on Sunday morning, and stayed for a couple of days. Madeline's actually spending the week there again because my sister-in-law/babysitter is in Hawaii.

Within the first few hours of being there, the entire quilt top was finished. Is it bound together and actually quilted? Well, no. My sister has kindly offered to finish it for me with her expert quilter mother-in-law. But, I'm pretty proud of it so far. I like the retro look and the bright colors. I like that I don't feel guilty about it anymore.

Asparagus,asparagus

Asparagus has become one of my favorite things about spring in Idaho. We've had a cold, wet, windy spring - so I've had to concentrate on really trying to like something about it. Here on the Serr farm , asparagus grows wild along the ditch banks. Someone from the family goes out every morning to pick. Partially, we do this because it's apparently not a secret that we have wild asparagus. All day long, we see people walking along the canal with plastic grocery bags looking for any stalks we haven't picked already.

How does wild asparagus compare to store bought? There is no comparison. It's mild, sweet, and crunchy. It's so good you can eat it raw. It's so good that I've overcome my issues with asparagus that stemmed from a bad experience with it during my pregnancy with Madeline. It's so good that we eat it almost everyday and aren't sick of it yet. We've had it grilled, sauteed, steamed, roasted, in crepes, and in pasta.

So, although spring is mostly miserable and it's still not warm here in June, at least there is something I've come to love.
