Got Your Goat

A goat came to our house yesterday.  Some sort of a fundraiser.  But, most importantly, a goat came to our house.

Another joy of Rupert, Idaho.  Really. It made our day.

Birthday Week

It's birthday week at our house!  Scott's big day was on Thursday, a day that is anticipated from the day after Christmas.  Mine is on Tuesday.  It always promises a fun few days.

We started the day off on Thursday bright and early with a nice breakfast that Scott actually mostly made (early breakfasts are not my specialty).  Then we scooted him out the door to work and Madeline and I got to some work of our own making cards and gift wrapping.

After the morning work was done, we went to the lake (reservoir).  It was windy and cold, but nice to be out of the house.  We came home for lunch, pie, and presents.

Notice the "dad" on the card.  I'm pretty sure I was 10 before I figured out how to do bubble letters.

Wrapping paper is the BEST!

The gifts were played with - one in particular.  More work was done in the evening.  A movie was watched, except that I was the only one who actually watched due to more gift playing.  A successful day in his eyes. Love him!

Curtains

We've been in need of curtains at our house.  The baby, especially, thinks he needs to wake up with the sun. Our current budget didn't give me the "go" to buy them.  Luckily I found some old navy blue tab-top curtain panels, and I thought why not use that for the lining, and just sew me some curtains?  Right.  Well, I did it, but I though to myself many times through the course of this project, why do I think the ability to sew a semi-straight line make me think I'm in any way qualified to make things like quilts or curtains?!!!   I had my mom's help, and couldn't have done it without her.

Here are Madeline's curtains:

I got the general idea here.  I didn't take a picture of both panels together because one is shorter than the other.  Apparently I didn't measure?  Madeline doesn't care, and I try not to notice.

Here's Benson's curtain panel:

It's a good thing I kept leftover fabric from his quilt, because again I'm incapable of measuring correctly and we bought a lot less fabric than we actually needed.  Oh, well - it looks better this way.

And for my favorite of the bunch:

As I was cutting, and cutting, and ruffling, and ruffling, I was really hoping I would like these in the end.  I do, I do!!!  I'm so happy with how they turned out.  It was the perfect addition to our living room.  Tutorial found here.  Mine aren't as long as those in the tutorial, so only needed to use three twin flat sheets.

The Best of Easter 2012

This is why we don't try to squeeze pictures into our Sunday mornings before 9am church.  See the telltale signs of a crying girl and a fussy baby?

One of the highlights of our day was the primary musical number during sacrament meeting.  It was Madeline's first.  It involved refusing to go up without me, stating loudly all the way to the front of the chapel, "I don't know any of these children, mommy!", and spending the duration of the song exploring the view from all areas of the stand - including a brief consideration of talking into the microphone and then luckily deciding against it (good choice, Madeline).  I couldn't stop laughing.  Apparently others couldn't either.  We got lots of comments.

We spent the rest of the day having dinner and an Easter egg hunt on the Serr farm.  I love it when the Easter Bunny doesn't have to come to our house.  We didn't even dye eggs this year.  Don't tell Madeline - she's forgotten all about that fun activity:)

Life through the eyes of a 4 year old photographer

Benson, Benson, Bo Benson at Nine mo.

Here's what's going on with this big boy of a baby:

21 lbs.
? height - our new dr doesn't seem to bother with the trivial.

  • I love his sense of humor.  He laughs and laughs when I put the wrong end of his binky in my mouth.  He giggles when I tuck him in under Madeline's covers as we put her to bed at night.  He laughs whenever Madeline does something crazy, which is, like, all of the time.
  • He's decided rolling on the floor is kind of fun, although he still needs a little push sometimes.  He scoots backwards while he cries in frustration.  No real mobility yet, though.
  • He has himself a sweet tooth.  Madeline remarked one day, "He's just like Grandpa Serr.  All he wants to eat are cookies and ice cream!"  Sadly, it's not completely false.  He loves his morning oatmeal, of course with a dollop of brown sugar.  After that it's hit or miss.  Sometimes he wants baby food, sometimes only table food, sometimes he wants to be fed, other times he wants to pick up the pieces himself.  I just realized this week, that of course he doesn't eat as much as Madeline did at this age - he doesn't move!  Just trying to be chill about the whole thing.
  • He loves to talk to daddy on the phone when he's at work.  He grins really big, an then turns the phone over in his hands as if to figure out how on earth his dad is in the phone.
  • He's gotten two teeth, scarlet fever, and an ear infection refractory to antibiotics in the last 3 months.  He doesn't sleep when he doesn't feel well and is in pain.  We've spent MANY a night together rocking, nursing, patting, and bouncing.  We've both been pretty exhausted lately, but somehow I don't mind too much.
Gosh, I love this guy.
